Shutters

Shutters

Interior shutters bring a sense of style and sophistication to any room. While they are often thought of as an exterior component, interior shutters are gaining popularity. They feature a rigid frame and tiltable louvers that offer excellent light control. The professionals here at Rachel Brosky Interiors would love to show you what beautiful addition shutters can be to your home.

Why Opt for Shutters?

Unlike other window treatments that have headrails or stack back, shutters can be swung open completely for an unobstructed view. They are also a cordless window treatment, making them safer for pets and young children. Many shoppers today are looking to make more eco-conscious purchases, and well-maintained shutters can last for decades.

Heritance® Hardwood Shutters

Heritance® Hardwood Shutters from Hunter Douglas are the embodiment of classic style. They are crafted from rapidly renewable hardwood, using the Truemill® dovetail technique. This technique creates an incredibly structurally sound method for holding panels together with interlocking components. The technique is much more solid than traditional dowels and glue. Hunter Douglas is committed to using responsible forestry management and makes a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation with every Heritance® purchase.

  • Glazed: A glaze that enhances the natural character of the wood is hand-applied and is available in three color choices.
  • Glazed & Burnished: Shutters are given an antique appearance by being sanded by hand and then glazed.
  • Classic Distressed: The distressed look is created by intermittent placing of dents and cracks along with your choice of glaze.
  • Heirloom Distressed: This is the next level of the Classic Distressed style. In addition to the elements of Classic Distressed, your shutters will feature burnished edges and rasping.

Why Invest in Shutters?

Custom-made means your shutters will fit your windows exactly with zero gaps. Shutters are also considered a permanent fixture once installed and so can increase the value of your property. You can also have peace of mind knowing that your shutters are providing solid security and total privacy when you need it.

Dusting Natural Wood and Faux Wood

The easiest way to dust your shutters is to use a feather duster or a soft cloth. Start at the top of your shutters, work your way across and down until you reach the bottom. Then reverse the direction of the louvers and repeat the steps.

Cleaning Hardwood

Since natural wood cannot be submerged in water or exposed to prolonged moisture, you have to take extra care when cleaning it. A wood conditioning oil can be used to remove dust and restore the surface’s shine. If your natural wood shutters are especially grimy, use warm, soapy water to wipe the louvers. Have a dry cloth ready to immediately dry the louvers thoroughly after cleaning.
